Miguel Bento Ribeiro, associate in the Tax area of practice at TELLES, signs an opinion article entitled “The Tightening of the Siege on Tax Benefits”, published by Jornal Económico.
Since the end of 2023, there has been a significant increase in tax inspections aimed at examining the correct application of tax incentives by companies.
According to the TELLES tax lawyer, it is known that the Tax and Customs Authority's trend is motivated by increasing political pressure, which aims to have greater control over the use of mechanisms that result in loss of tax revenue for the State.
In this regard, it should be highlighted the recent setup of the technical unit, U-TAX, which aims to monitor the application of tax benefits in Portugal.
