TELLES advises on the creation of the first Renewable Energy Community (REC) with energy recovery from municipal waste

TELLES is providing legal advice to LIPOR - Association of Municipalities for the Sustainable Management of Waste in Greater Porto - on the creation of the Renewable Energy Community. This ground-breaking initiative in Portugal aims to use the energy generated by waste recovery to produce renewable energy. By using the energy produced by LIPOR, the municipalities and organisations involved will benefit from lower costs compared to market rates, while operating more efficiently.

The TELLES team, led by Ivone Rocha, partner of the Energy and Natural Resources practice area, with the participation of Luísa Vilas Boas, associate in the same practice, played a significant role in this project.

It is worth noting that the creation of the Renewable Energy Community will not only contribute to the advancement of circular economy practices, but will also bring environmental, economic and social benefits to the municipalities involved. This project enables the decentralised production of clean and renewable energy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions, in line with national and European decarbonisation commitments.
