Informative Note | European Commission approves proposal for a regulation on media freedom

After completing the public consultation launched on the 10th of January 2022, the European Commission adopted on the 16th September 2022 a proposal for a regulation on freedom of the media.

This proposal for a regulation includes, among others, safeguards against political interference in editorial decisions and against surveillance, reinforces the need for the media to obtain independent and stable funding, encourages transparency in the ownership and control structures of the media and creates rules on the distribution of state advertising.
