Francisco Espregueira Mendes comments on the evolution of the national economy

Francisco Espregueira Mendes, partner and head of the Corporate, Transactional and Private Equity practice at TELLES, shares his views on the evolution of the national economy in comments to Jornal de Negócios.

"Despite the increase in interest rates and, therefore, the greater difficulty in accessing credit, the truth is that we continue to see new investments, namely by foreign companies that continue to see opportunities in Portugal that allow them to multiply the investments made with good multiples".

The TELLES partner also points out that this reality does not only affect the "sectors that are on the agenda, such as tourism or energy, but also the more traditional industrial sectors", which explains why Portugal continues to be on the radar of investors.

As for the main factor limiting business activity, Francisco Espregueira Mendes says that it is "inflation, with the consequent increase in interest rates for financing, which makes it difficult for small and medium-sized companies in particular to access money", but also "the lack of labour, especially qualified labour".
