Inês Santos and José Nuno Vilaça da Fonseca have joined the tax practice, led by chairman Miguel Torres. Gabriel Calaes has joined the Global Mobility and Visas team, headed by partner André Gonçalves.
Inês Santos has over 10 years' experience in several areas of tax law, covering both national and international taxation. She specialises in tax, customs and social security litigation.
She has a law degree and a master’s in Legal and Economic Sciences from the University of Porto's Faculty of Law. She also completed a postgraduate course in European Customs Law at the Faculty of Law of the Portuguese Catholic University. She has also completed courses in IRC Taxation, Accounting Records, and Procedural Practices in Labour Law.
Since 2016, she has been a guest contributor and author of several articles for O Informador Fiscal, a partnership with CIJE (the Centre for Legal and Economic Research).
José Nuno Vilaça da Fonseca is also part of the tax team. He has experience in national and international taxation, providing ongoing legal assistance to companies and private clients. He has provided tax legal assistance in relation to mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring operations, real estate transactions, compliance, and investment restructuring, both nationally and internationally.
He holds a law degree and a master's degree in tax law, both from the Faculty of Law at the Portuguese Catholic University. He also holds an Advanced Professional Certificate in International Taxation (APCIT) from the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD), and has undertaken specialised training in crypto-assets, taxation, and market regulation at the Institute of Economic, Financial, and Tax Law (IDEFF).
Gabriel Calaes has a solid academic background and diverse practical experience and has been supporting clients in legal matters related to private international law, immigration law, and Portuguese nationality. He handles international mobility processes and provides legal advice to individuals and companies on the regularisation of migration situations and obtaining residence permits in Portugal for purposes such as work, investment, study or family reunification.
He holds a law degree from Fundação Mineira de Educação e Cultura in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and has completed additional studies at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon through the Erasmus programme. He also holds a postgraduate degree in Business Law from Fundação Getúlio Vargas in Rio de Janeiro, and he is currently pursuing a master’s degree in business law at the University of Lisbon's Faculty of Law.
Before joining TELLES, he worked as a consultant at the Lisbon-based law firm Vianna, Andrade e Niemeyer Advogados Associados and worked at several leading Brazilian firms, including Vilas Boas Lopes Frattari Advogados and Madrona Advogados.
