In statements to Jornal de Negócios, Pedro Vidigal Monteiro, partner and head of the Digital, Privacy and Cybersecurity practice at TELLES, analysed the new legislative framework on cybersecurity.
“The NIS2 Directive represents a profound change to the national legislative framework. It extends its scope to more sectors and companies and imposes concrete measures for preventing, mitigating and reporting cybersecurity incidents quickly”, the lawyer emphasises.
The TELLES partner adds that the recently begun process of transposing the directive into national law provides for “significantly increased penalties for non-compliance, which reinforces the need for a rigorous approach to ensure legal compliance”.
The NIS2 Directive builds on and broadens the scope of the NIS1 Directive, which was introduced in Portugal in 2018.
