Pedro Almeida e Sousa, partner and head of the Real Estate and Construction practice at TELLES, comments on the challenges and opportunities of Balcão Único d Prédio (BUPi) to Jornal de Negócios.
The property lawyer considers it essential to make the system more rigorous and technically reliable, pointing out that, despite its obvious advantages and the objectives it seeks to achieve, the platform is not as rigorous as it should be, particularly when it comes to identifying property boundaries. Created in 2017, Balcão Único do Prédio (BUPI) was designed to identify and register rural properties. It has since seen positive developments in terms of both its effectiveness and uptake. The platform is free to use until the end of 2025 and has enabled greater clarity regarding land ownership, thereby contributing to more effective land use planning.
