Legal Alert | COVID-19 - Intellectual Property - Normal Service Provision

The National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) will ensure the monitoring of all pending cases, which have so far been running smoothly, following its normal procedures.

As with all Public Administration employees, the INPI's employees will be providing since  March 16, whenever their duties may allow so.

The minimum functioning of the INPI's Public Attendance service will be ensured, giving preference to the on-line service, being that the resource to the face-to-face service can only be made through its pre-schedule, and when it is not possible by any other means (on-line, email, phone).

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the European Patent Office (EPO) will also ensure the provision of services, as usual, through on-line consultation of pending cases, as well as through email and phone support. The registration procedures at these Institutes will continue normally.

Certainly, at this stage, the Institutes will refrain from participating in any oral procedures involving parties or representatives who have recently visited high-risk areas will be carried out by videoconference or postponed, upon request, doing their best to eliminate the need for the party or representative to travel for oral procedures.
